Singapore: Mohamed Ariffin, 53, made a police report after he found out that his seven-year-old daughter, who goes to New Town Primary School in Tanglin Halt Road, had been verbally abused by a teacher. The school and teacher have both apologized in person and in writing for the incident.
Irene Ng, principal of New Town Primary, said the school has counseled the teacher, and that the teacher has been assigned a mentor to guide her in her daily interactions with the pupils.
Ariffin has approached the Education Ministry for answers. He said he is not the only parent who has complained about the teacher. He claims that another parent told him that the same teacher had said ‘I hate you’ to another pupil.
Now we know why Singaporeans are so trigger happy when it comes to making police reports for issues that can be solved more creatively.
No need try and solve the problem yourself, no need to maintain or create goodwill, no need to understand the other side of the story. Just walk on to your nearest police post. Quite sad.
